So, you want to play through Primal Fear alone with the power to pause at anytime and to stop and come back as you please? Very well; while the mod is not necessarily meant for singleplayer it is confirmed to still be possible, or at least up to a certain point.

Getting Started

To begin, you'll need to have a plan. What map do you plan to play on? What expansions will you add? Where do you plan to build early on? These are some of the most important things you want to figure out ahead of time, as your early days will be filled with lots of things to make your survival more and more difficult. For this guide, it will be assumed that you have enabled all of the DLC expansions in order to maximize the chaos that can ensue. But now its time to find out where to build. What's safe, and what isn't?

Choosing your home

There's lots of places you can set up shelter in these early days. You've got the Beaches, the Grasslands, an Obelisk, or some major landmarks that may be present on some maps (Like Hidden Lake on The Island or one of the many open caves on Ragnarok). Each location has their pros and cons, and depending on the map, some may be more favorable then others.

Beaches

Beaches are easy to get set up on, and come with easy access to Water. There's also the (mostly) uncontested Berry Bushes that will help you get  Vegetable seeds early, and there's even lots of  Dodos around for easy access to eggs to fuel  Toxic Kibble production. But the presence of Dodos is a double edged sword. You may wonder what's wrong with Dodos, but the real issue is what can spawn in place of them. Sometimes, a  Kamikaze or  Nuka Dodo may spawn in place of a regular Dodo, which can easily delete early game structures when they attack. Though this requires them to spawn in the first place, which is not often. There is also the risk of a  Demonic Parasaur spawning, but unfortunately  Parasaurs spawn in many different biomes, so there will always be a small risk of them spawning. Overall the Beach is fairly safe, just watch out for any dodos with smoke trails and you should be mostly alright.

Grasslands

The Grasslands may seem like a terrible idea, but depending on the spawns you may get lucky. Grasslands leave you with lots of room for future expansion, but depending on the location you may have some distance between you and the closest water source. Some maps have better Grasslands then others, like Ragnarok for instance with its relatively spaced creature spawns. Grasslands have lots of risks though, the biggest one being  Raptors. Though extremely rare, there is the risk of an File:Origin Raptor.png Origin Raptor naturally spawning, which can quickly put an end to even  Apex Creatures. There's even other threats like the  Primal Raptor,  Primal Tek Raptor, and many other high tier threats. But if you like to gamble against rng, then this biome may be for you as the wide open spaces leave lots of room for outdoor dino storage.

Obelisks

Note.png Notice
The following section does not apply to maps with non-standard obelisks, such as Aberration and Genesis: Part 1

While actually reaching an Obelisk is easier said then done in the early game, it is possible, and on some maps its practically a spawn location which makes it even easier. Obelisks are good because they don't spawn much of anything, maybe the odd Raptor or  Compy, but its otherwise quite peaceful on the platform. The areas surrounding the Platform are typically pretty hostile, but most Obelisks are also on a Pillar surrounded by a pit, which mostly keeps the dangerous creatures at bay. Overall, it is pretty safe to catch your bearings, even if it may be more difficult to bring your dinos up to it.

Landmarks

There are many landmarks on maps that may prove useful, whether that be due to the surrounding creature spawns or due to a lack of creature spawns in the nearby area. Some examples include the upper walkways on Extinction, one of the numerous rock pillars and plateaus on Ragnarok, and the large rock pillar near Smuggler's Pass on The Island

Starting your journey

After you've spawned, you'll want to immediately prioritize your basic essentials;  Cloth Armor to help with the heat, a  Waterskin(or 2) for water, and a basic set of Stone Tools. Don't forget to try and grab materials for a  Mortar and Pestle as well as a  Campfire for  Narcotics and  Cooked Meat respectively. Don't bother with  Thatch Structures when setting up your permanent base, and instead start trying to make  Wooden or preferably  Stone Structures instead. Most Primal Fear creatures are able to one-shot Thatch structures and some can also one shot Wooden ones as well, while Stone retains it's resistance to most creature attacks, making it your best choice for structures.

Starting out (Vanilla Tier)

This is one of the hardest stages of the game. *Everything* is stronger then you, and your at the bottom of the food chain. Scrounge up any and all  Eggs you can safely grab, and steer clear of any threats. It may be useful to make a few  Hide Sleeping Bags to consistently respawn near the area you chose to build your base, as chances are you'll be dying a lot. If a  Demonic or  Primal Tek Creature happens to spawn and/or wander close to your base, it may be a good idea to either cut your losses and build elsewhere or try to get your valuables out first. Be on the lookout for Medium and Large animal feces as it will prove useful if you're able to find a Dung Beetle. A  Compost Bin can also suffice if you aren't able to get ahold of one, but it will require a little more maintenance due to needing a constant supply of thatch

Objectives

  • Try to reach at least level 20.
  • Set up a basic shelter to keep you and your first few tames safe.
  • Smelt  Metal/ Scrap Metal in your spare time to acquire Metal Tools and materials.
  • Set up a basic farm with  Vegetables,  Narcoberries, and  Tintoberries planted in it. The more you can supply the better.
  • Obtain a  Crossbow and try to craft the best variant of tranq arrows you can afford.
  • Tame about 5 or 6 egg laying creatures for somewhat stable egg production. The more Dodos the better.
  • Build a  Primal Smithy.

Creatures to Tame

  •  Dodos
    • Dodos are by far the easiest way to get your hands on eggs early on. With their chance to poop out an egg instead of  Feces, a handful can quickly net you a good baseline production to get  Toxic Kibble underway.
  •  Dilophosaurs
    • If for some reasons Dodos are hard to come by, Dilos can make for a decent alternative. While they don't have the egg laying on pooping chance like Dodos, they are fairly easy to still tame and try and get eggs from regardless.
  •  Oviraptors
    • These guys may be difficult to tame early on, but don't forget about them either. Try to snag some vanilla eggs that they like to make the process easier, and be sure to only try to tame low level ones to save on eggs.
  •  Iguanodons
    • It may be questionable to recommend a vanilla Iguanodon when there is an  Alpha variant, but being able to convert narco and tinto berries into seeds early on will help with your advanced Narcotics production.
  •  Dung Beetles
    • Dung Beetles are able to convert Feces to  Fertilizer, which you can put into your Crop Plots once you have them made. Fertilizer is much more efficient then using Feces directly, and you even get small amounts of  Oil as a bonus which can be made into  Gasoline by combining it and Hide in a  Refining Forge.
  •  Rudolph
    • On the surface, this flying  Megaloceros may not seem all that impressive, but its actually one of the fastest tames in the mod. It also has quite a nasty kick that can punt other tames so far they can end up outside of render distance! Rudolph is also able to inflict bleed with its attacks, allowing for a bit of cheesing on higher tiered dinos. It cannot be bred however, as they can only spawn as male. Keep this in mind if you ever find one!

Creatures to Avoid

  • Pretty much every other creature as the Primal Fear variants are just better then the vanilla creatures. (With some exceptions)

Miscellaneous

  • The  Achatina is one additional vanilla creature worth mentioning as its passive  Achatina Paste production can prove useful, though taming them early on is far too dangerous, and that's not mentioning the  Sweet Vegetable Cakes required to tame them. They also may not be worth the trouble if you don't have a mod that lets them passively produce resources without maintenance (manually taking paste out of their inventory + feeding them more cakes) such as Dino Souls.

Baby steps (Toxic Tier)

Once you've gotten yourself a few handfuls of  Toxic Kibble, you'll be ready to start scoping out the area for some Toxic creatures to tame. These guys are faster and are typically territorial, so don't be surprised when the dodos suddenly seem hungry for your blood. For the most part, you shouldn't need to worry about making taming traps just yet. Be sure to watch out for Toxic Phiomias though, as they are much faster then you think they are and can possibly outrun you if you didn't invest enough points into movement speed!

Objectives

  • Reach level 30.
  • Tame around 4-5 Toxic creatures to start up  Toxic Egg Production. Remember that Dodos have increased egg laying capabilities.
  • Start looking out for Alpha Pteranodons, and trapping one if you can.
  • Start work on a perimeter wall to make your base a little safer.

Creatures to Tame

  •  Toxic Dodo/ Toxic Zombie Dodo
    • Toxic Dodos are your go-to for Toxic Eggs. They have the same egg laying mechanics as vanilla Dodos and are extremely easy and cheap to tame. There's almost no reason not to tame a few!
  •  Toxic Tarantula
    • While a bit creepy to some, Toxic Tarantulas are very adept at inflicting Topor onto other creatures, and can be used to help knock out creatures if your tranqs aren't enough. They seemingly also lay eggs fairly frequently, so theres another bonus of them.
  •  Toxic Phiomia
    • Toxic Phiomias are surprisingly quick for their appearance, and despite being a Mammal they lay Toxic Eggs! They're a good early game mount if you can get your hands on one.

Creatures to Target/Kill

  •  Toxic Dodo/ Toxic Zombie Dodo
    • After you've gone and tamed a few of these guys, you might want to also kill some of the extras you see for  Toxic Hide as well as their loot drops. While Toxic creatures don't exactly drop good loot, it is still loot, and anything is better then nothing. You'll end up needing the  Toxic Blood from them anyway.
  •  Toxic Carbonemys
    • While a bit difficult to kill on foot, a group of Toxic Dodos are able to kill one of these and they give quite a bit of Toxic Hide. The added  Keratin is a bonus for  Cementing Paste production.
  •  Toxic Parasaur
    • Toxic Parasaurs are fairly easy to kill with arrows on foot, and so they make for a good creature to hunt for Toxic Blood and Hide.

Creatures to Avoid

  •  Toxic Megalodon
    • You've got no business trying to stake a claim in the ocean right now. You'd be better off taming an  Alpha Megalodon in the next tier.
  •  Toxic Carbonemys
    • While it may seem tempting, taming these Toxic turtles isn't really worth the effort due to their speed. You ideally won't be staying on toxic tier for very long either due to toxic dodos, so your better off getting a higher tier tame to tank.

Miscellaneous

  • Keep an eye out for any random loot bags on the ground. A higher tier creature may of been killed there and you could potentially get some nice goodies before your meant to acquire them.

Moving on up (Alpha Tier)

This is the point where things start opening up; there are now lots of different tames to choose from and you're no longer limited to the land. Now, the sky and the ocean have opened up as potential areas of exploration. By now, you should have your perimiter wall fully set up to keep the aggro off you and your tames. This is also around the time where you should start up  Cooked Meat Jerky and  Prime Meat Jerky production if you haven't already. It should also be safer to start looking more inland for future base locations if you aren't quite happy with your current location, but don't start moving your base quite yet! Wait until Elementals for that.

Objectives

  • Reach level 40.
  • Acquire  Crystal and  Metal Ingots/ Scrap Metal Ingots in preparation of and/or crafting  Greenhouse Structures to enhance your crop production.
  • Obtain a full set of  Alpha Armor either through creature loot drops or through crafting.
  • Ensure you have sustainable Jerky production of both types.
  • Try to get ahold of a good supply of  Giant Bee Honey through your preferred method. It's always nice to have.
  • If you haven't gotten one through random loot drops already, try getting ahold of a  Longneck Rifle. You won't be able to craft the PF tranq ammunition for it for a while, but the darts drop fairly often from PF creatures and you might be able to get by with those for a little while.

Creatures to Tame

  •  Alpha Dodo
    • Alpha Dodos should be your first pick for egg production. Much like Toxic Dodos, they share the same egg laying mechanics with vanilla Dodos. Try to get ahold of a mating pair for breeding as it may be hard to find a good enough number for Elemental Kibble.
  •  Alpha Pteranodon
    • Alpha Pteranodons are a great early tame and cannot be recommended enough. While not all that powerful in terms of damage, their true strength comes in their flight. Primal Fear flyers allow you to level movement speed, rapidly increasing the flying speed of the flyer in question. Since the Pteranodon is already a naturally quick flyer, leveling speed has even more of an effect on it.
  •  Alpha Ankylosaurus/ Alpha Mantis
    • Alpha Ankys are much faster then vanilla ankys and harvest much more as well. If you have a good quality  Metal Pick however, it may be more worthwhile to instead get an Alpha Mantis as they are much more time efficient.
  •  Alpha Doedicurus/ Alpha Mantis
    • Alpha Doeds are great at collecting stone, but similar to with the Anky, if you have a good quality  Metal Hatchet, then you may be better off getting an Alpha Mantis instead.
  •  Alpha Rex/ Alpha Spinosaur
    • Whichever one you pick is dependent on the map as well as personal preference, but overall both dinos are great overall muscle tames for the tier. Sure, they may not be able to go toe-to-toe with some of the higher tiered creatures, but they can handle most of the other creatures within their tier.

Honorable Mentions:

  •  Alpha Ichthyosaurus
    • While not neccasairly required, if you wish to start your ocean adventures early, then the Alpha Ichty is a solid choice. Its fast enough to outrun most threats and can usually get you to various underwater resource caves without much issue.
  •  Alpha Gacha
    • While not a necessarily useful or commonly spawned creature, the Alpha Gacha is unique in that it has some of Primal Fear's resources mixed into its production pool. Generally, its a better idea to wait until you can get ahold of  Fabled Gachas, but if your a Gacha enjoyer you might as well tame these guys in the meantime.
  •  Alpha Giganotosaurus
    • These guys aren't really common enough to go out of your way to tame. It's generally not worth spending time trying to get one to spawn, though if one does spawn, its not a terrible idea to grab it.
  •  Alpha Phoenix
    • While extremely powerful, the Alpha Phoenix is also not worth going out of your way to find and tame. If you find one then absolutely tame it, but its very low spawn rate makes it difficult to recommend completely.

Creatures to Target/Kill

  •  Alpha Raptor
    • The Alpha Raptor is a easy kill with an alright chance to drop loot. It may not have the most blood or hide from harvesting, but at least it goes down quickly.
  •  Alpha Terror Bird
    • Like the Raptor but more dangerous, Alpha Terror Birds are also fairly quick to deal with and have a fair chance to drop some loot. It also gives a little bit more when you harvest it.
  •  Alpha Dodo
    • Any extra dodos that you find can be also killed for loot if its needed, though they won't have the best drops for alphas either.

Creatures to Avoid

  •  Alpha Dilophosaur
    • While having a big Dilo might seem cool, its just not worth the trouble as a serious tame. Almost all other creatures in the tier still overstat it and it can easily be put out of commission.
  •  Alpha Dimorphodon
    • While admittedly not a terrible choice, the Alpha Dimorphodon suffers from the unfortunate case of jank; oftentimes when you land, the Dimorphodon will randomly decide to wander around a bit, possibly putting itself or even you in danger by it not being nearby. It also cannot grab anything unlike the Pteranodon.

Miscellaneous

  • Be sure not to confuse the Primal Fear Alpha creatures with the vanilla  Alpha Creatures. Vanilla Alpha Dinos glow with a red aura, and cannot be tamed. They also can generally beat Primal Fear Alpha creatures as well!

Clearing the Skies (Basic Elemental Tier)

Now that you've made a place for yourself, its time to look skyward. By now, you've likely seen a few elementals wreaking havoc on other wild creatures and now its time to claim some for yourself. There's 4 different types of (Basic) Elementals, being Caustic, Electric, Fire, and Ice. There are also Advanced Elementals which are the Light and Dark variants, though you can't tame those just yet. While they are powerful, you likely won't end up staying on this tier for long, as Elementals have an increased egg laying rate compared to other tiers.

Objectives

  • Reach level 50.
  • Obtain all four elemental variants.
  • Ensure your armor is at least  Alpha Armor or better.
  • Start looking for  Artifacto the Great as he is cheesable with most Elementals; the  Artifacts will also come in handy.

Creatures to Tame

  • Elemental Featherlight
    • Featherlights stand apart from the other elementals in the sense that they keep their Head armor slot due to originally being a shoulderpet. Therefore, they are able to theroetically tank much more damage compared to the other Elementals, especially when equipped with a good Helmet. On top of that, they lay eggs like no tomorrow, so much so that a single mating pair may be enough to fulfil your egg production needs.
  • Elemental Griffin
    • Griffins are tricky to use, but those experienced with them can get a long of work done with their dive bomb attack. It is important to remember that Griffins cannot lay eggs, but in return, they give more feathers then the other Elementals when harvested.

Honorable Mentions:

  • Elemental Megaraptor
    • The Megaraptor is extremely fast, and can quickly cross huge distances with ease. Unfortunately, it can also be too fast, and possibly lead you into getting stuck into a much larger creature which could easily take it out before you can break free. Though if used responsibly, the Megaraptor is still a good exploration tame to search the map for high value tames.

Creatures to Target/Kill

  • Elemental Parrot
    • Elemental Parrots are very weak and are easy prey to other elementals, which leads to easy loot.

Creatures to Avoid

  • Elemental Parrot
    • It's not worth wasting your Kibble on the Parrots when there are better tames available.

Miscellaneous

  • Its not a bad idea to start working on  Apex Kibble before you have obtained all 4 basic Elemental variants. In some cases it may even end up saving you some time, so if the opportunity presents itself to tame some Apex creatures, feel free to persue it.

Controlling the Ground (Apex Tier)

By now, you've reached the upper end of the food chain, and for the most part you are no longer living in fear of the surrounding fauna. Let's keep that ball rolling and keep moving up to get even stronger. Now that you'll be needing Jerky for the rest of the kibbles (aside from  Special Kibble), its not advised to continue taming low end creatures of the tier for egg progression, but if you have a surplus then no one is stopping you.

Objectives

  • Reach level 60.
  • Ensure your armor is at least  Apex Armor or better.

Creatures to Tame

  •  Apex Rex/File:Apex Spinosaur.png Apex Spinosaur/ Apex Dire Bear
    • All 3 of these tames bring lots of strength to the table and are generally on the higher end of this tier. Whichever one you tame depends on personal preference and availability, but all 3 will bring you consistent results nevertheless. Don't forget that Dire Bears are unable to lay eggs!
  •  Apex Therizinosaurus
    • Theris are great multipurpose tames that can specialize in both harvesting and damage. It's best to have at least 2; one specializing in power harvesting and another for delicate harvesting. However, an argument can be made to instead wait and tame a pair of  Fabled or even  Celestial Therizinosaurs instead.
  •  Apex Lightning Wyvern
    • The Apex Lightning Wyvern is a great tame for long ranged damage as well as for transporting creatures around. They aren't easy to tame themselves however, as their lightning breath can be quite deadly!
  •  Apex Megalodon
    • A great all around tame for patrolling the waters, Apex megs help ensure you reign extends below the water as well.
  •  Apex Baryonyx
    • Barys make for excellent water tames with their built in ability to stun while swimming. This can make them punch well above their weight class, since stunlocking is an extremely powerful tool that only bosses are immune to.

Honorable Mentions:

  •  Apex Giganotosaurus
    • Do not try going out of your way to find these guys. They are far too uncommon to reliable find, and your better off trying to tame other Apex creatures in the process. Though if one does spawn it is absolutely recommended to tame it as they are still quite the powerhouse!
  •  Apex Phoenix
    • The Apex Phoenix has a damage output so high that it can even challenge File:Origin Creatures.png Origin Bosses, but like the Apex Giganotosaurus, the Apex Phoenix spawns very rarely and it cannot be reliably obtained. In the rare even that you encounter one however, then you should absolutely grab it.

Creatures to Target/Kill

  •  Apex Dilophosaur
    • Apex Dilos are a quick and easy kill for early Apex-tier loot. If one is desperate, they can also be tamed for Egg production.
  •  Apex Raptor
    • Raptors are still a great common creature that can be killed easily without much pressure, but this is the last time that will be the case...
  •  Apex Terror Bird
    • While a bit more dangerous, Terror birds are still fairly easy to kill for mid to high end creatures of Apex tier. Just try not to let multiple swarm you as they can be quite nasty!

Creatures to Avoid

  •  Apex Griffin
    • While it may be tempting to tame one of these, Griffin enjoyers are much better off taming an Advanced Elemental Griffin or a  Fabled Grifficorn. Instead, save your kibble for other tames.
  •  Apex Reaper King/ Apex Reaper Queen
    • The stats may be appealing on the Reapers, but their main issue comes with their taming process. Reapers are incredibly resistant to damage (and therefore tranquilizers) while not under the effects of Charge Light. Even so, you are better off taming an  Omega Reaper as they outclass the Apex ones.

Miscellaneous

  • Apex tiered tames are able to easily take on the vanilla bosses in the obelisks. One could start taking these bosses down for the extra max levels if they so choose, but don't forget that Artifacts are quite valuable in Primal Fear.

Band of misfits (Special Tier)

This tier is optional, but has all sorts of strange and goofy tames that may be fun to play around with. From the circus Buffoons to the speedy Malins, there's likely something in here for everyone, so don't be afraid to try some of them out.

Objectives

  • Experiment!

Creatures to Tame

  •  Buffoon Ferox
    • Armed with quite the arsenal, this funny little guy specializes in long ranged attacks. It's a bit difficult to aim though, but when it does hit, you'll most certainly know.
  •  Buffoon Megatherium
    • These strange beasts are small enough to fit in most caves, while still being strong enough to throw down with some apex tames. They can't handle every cave, but they are a real menace once buffed up with the insect killing buff!
  •  Elder Malin
    • These flying horses have a very nasty back hoof, and can deal huge amounts of topor damage with their kicks. They can be tricky to tame though so be careful!
  •  Elder Moschops
    • Incredibly fast and surprisingly powerful for what it is, the Elder Moschops is a great utility tame with high knockback that allows it to sometimes cheese creatures it otherwise would not be able to kill. Being a Moschops, it is also very adept at harvesting specific drops that you spec it into.
  •  Malin Pteranodon
    • These pink and shiny fellows are rare, but they come with the gift of incredible speed!
  •  Legendary Pegasus
    • These flying horses are excellent gatherers, and have an ascension system that can be triggered after a certain number of kills. Once you reach the threshold, you can ascend the pegasus by inserting a corresponding  Celestial or  Demonic Soul into its inventory. Just don't forget to empty it's inventory when you do ascend it so that you don't lose any items!

Creatures to Target/Kill

  •  Buffoon Gigantopithecus
    • This angry chainsaw-wielding menace drops numerous high quality chainsaws on death, which can either be kept for personal use or grinded up in an industrial grinder for loads of materials, especially if its of Godliath quality!
  •  Elder Defender
    • While possibly a tempting tame, you are much better off taming the  Apex Defender if you really want a Defense Unit that could shoot projectiles. Instead, kill these machines for their  Scrap Metal and other assorted drops!

Miscellaneous

  • The  Shadow Nameless is an interesting specimen. It has a massive particle associated with its projectile attack, but the actual range is quite short. This seems to be due to a bug.

Keeping things efficient (Advanced Elemental Tier)

If you like elementals or want to keep things nice and efficient, then it may be worthwhile investing in Light and Dark elementals. They drop all 4 variants of  Feathers and boast even higher stats then their basic counterparts.

Objectives

  • Reach level 70.

Creatures to Tame

  •  Light/ Dark Featherlight
    • Just like the basic elemental Featherlights, the advanced ones also have a helmet slot to benefit from to grant them even more armor. This still keeps them above the other elementals.
  •  Light/ Dark Griffin
    • Griffins are able to give you TONS of elemental feathers when harvested properly. Grab a mating pair and breed them whenever you need more feathers!

Creatures to Avoid

  •  Light/ Dark Parrot
    • Parrots still suck. Rip.

Farming 2.0 (Fabled Tier)

The purple and blue creatures within this tier are exceptional at harvesting resources due to having a high harvest multiplier, and many of them will prove useful for the average player. The vast majority of them are herbivores, though some others such as the Fabled Quetzal don't have a plant based diet.

Objectives

  • Start working towards level 85. You still have another tier before it blocks progression so you have some time.
  • Acquire a nice collection of Fabled tames.

Creatures to Tame

  •  Fabled Pteranodon
    • The Fabled Pteranodon is a fast flier with the ability to pick up a lot more then its lower tiered counterparts. One of these new additions includes the Ankylosaurus, which allows you to quickly zip around with one to gather Metal from all sorts of places.
  •  Fabled Grifficorn
    • While slightly slower then the Pteranodon, the Grifficorn can let you toss around just about anything as if they weighed nothing at all, even arkgg:Brontosaurus! The Grifficorn also has a support ability that allows it to heal nearby tamed dinos at a %health rate, making it incredibly useful in boss fights.
  •  Fabled Gacha
    • The gigachad of the Gachas. This one can produce all kinds of materials, including various Primal Fear ones! They also have a higher chance of producing  Element and/or Metal with their production outputs. Overall they're a very nice utility tame you can throw all that extra ungrindable loot into.
  •  Fabled Ankylosaurus
    • The Fabled Anky is one of the most effective, if not the most effective, Metal harvesters out there. It cleaves through Metal and Obsidian rocks in 1 hit, and it'll gather more Crystal then you'll ever need. The only drawback is that it can't harvest corpses, which is where the next creature comes into play...
  •  Fabled Mantis
    • If the Fabled Anky isn't the most effective Metal harvester, then the Fabled Mantis certainly must be. It can do everything the Fabled Anky can do and more due to being able to harvest corspes. Depending on the gear you equip it with, the Fabled Mantis can potentially harvest more then the Fabled Anky, and it is much faster as well.
  •  Fabled Therizinosaurus
    • Bested by only the Celestial Therizinosaur, the Fabled Theri can harvest boat loads of Blood and Hide from Primal Fear creatures. Just like with the Apex Theri, its good idea to try and tame at least 2; one specializing in power harvesting and another for delicate harvesting.

Honorable Mentions:

Creatures to Target/Kill

  •  Fabled Brontosaurus /  Brachiosaurus
    • These large purple Sauropods are a bit powerful, but they are well worth the risk taking down to get ahold of their  Fabled Blood and  Fabled Hide.
  •  Fabled Mammoth
    • Like the Fabled Bronto, but smaller. Still gives large amounts of Blood and Hide on death, and is probably going to be more common depending on the map.
  •  Fabled Quetzal
    • It takes up a rare creature slot and you don't gain much by taming one. Just kill it and hope something better spawns in its place.

Creatures to Avoid

  •  Fabled Argentavis
    • Since the Fabled Pteranodon is able to carry most creatures, there isn't much of a need to tame a Fabled Argentavis. Instead you are better off killing them for their loot drops.
  •  Fabled Doedicurus
    • You shouldn't need so much stone to warrant taming this. The Fabled Anky and Mantis will inevitably gather loads of stone while trying to harvest Metal and other Pick-related harvests.

Miscellaneous

Selective Breeding (Omega Tier)

Objectives

  • Reach level 85.
  • If you haven't gotten one through random loot drops already, try getting ahold of a  Primal Sniper Rifle. Unlike the  Longneck Rifle, the Primal Sniper can fire up to 8 times before needing to reload. Combine this with hitscan projectiles and you have yourself a nice reliable Topor weapon that won't succumb to ARKs questionable hit registration.

Creatures to Tame

  •  Omega Reaper
    • While extremely difficult to acquire, a tamed Omega Reaper can surpass all of the other Omega tiered tames by a fair margin. This is largely due to the high resistances that Reapers have when not under the effects of Charge Light.
  •  Omega Rex/File:Omega Spino.png Omega Spino
    • Like before, the Omega Rex and Omega Spino are both great worthwhile tames. Which one you go for is up to personal preference.

Creatures to Target/Kill

  •  Omega Sarco
    • The Omega Sarco is on the weaker end of the Omega Spectrum though is also one of the more commonly encountered ones. This makes them a good source of Omega-Tier loot as well as  Omega Blood and File:Omega Hide.png Omega Hide until you can get a breeding pair together for a more consistent means of producing those materials.

Creatures to Avoid

  •  Omega Ice Wyvern
    • Arguably the worst Omega of them all, the Omega Ice Wyvern doesn't bring enough to the table to warrant taming it. Kill it and harvest it; simple.

Miscellaneous

End of the Line (Celestial/Demonic Tier)

Objectives

  • If you haven't gotten one through random loot drops already, try getting ahold of a  Primal Compound Bow. While not hitscan, the Metal Arrows that can be fired with this bow are far more potent then bullets and are much more efficient resource-wise, especially at higher qualities. A Godliath Primal Compound Bow with  Primal Tranq Primal Metal Arrow can potentially do hundreds of thousands of Topor per arrow.
